Roof Maintenance is Essential

Recent Tips

Your home’s roof is one of the most expensive things you can replace. A quality roof can cost upwards of $10,000 so you better make sure that roof maintenance is something at the top of your list. At Contain Your Stuff Penticton we are home to many contracting businesses, some of them roofers. Here are some tips to keep your home’s roof in the best shape possible.

Roof Maintenance Tips

Regular Debris Removal

Things such as branches, leaves and anything else that falls onto it should be removed regularly. Having these debris sit around for a long time can cause unneeded stress on the shingles and attract rodents for nesting.

Regular Examinations

Inspecting your roof and its shingles every 6 months or so is a crucial part of staying on top of any incoming repairs. Checking for leaks inside the Attic and looking for loose or broken shingles could save you thousands down the road.

Moss Removal

Moss is a common enemy to roof shingles. Besides the fact that it looks bad, it should be removed frequently. It can cause water to build up in spots and affects the way that the roof is made to drain. You can either spray moss remover or go and remove the moss build up by hand.

Keep Gutters Clean

Not the funnest job, but keeping your gutters clean and clear is very important. You want water to drain properly off your roof and not build up. When you’re cleaning your gutters, you also want to check for cracks in caulking, peeling paint or rotting fascia. These wildfires have put a ton of ash into the air which can land in your gutters and drains, so double check!

Chimneys and Vents

Inspections of your chimneys and vents is also very important. You want to make sure that you keep the brick sealed and the vents in good condition. If there is any damage to these things, maybe call in a professional for repair, brick work can be tricky.

Always, always work safely and use a harness when doing roof work. Do not do it in the rain. Better to get your roof fixed in the spring/summer. Less chance of leaks and slips!
